From Abby: Difficult News

Sunday, January 23rd, 2011Hi everyone…hope your January is going well. I am hesitant to write this posting, as many things about my trip to St. Albert’s have suddenly become very uncertain. Rather than wait until I have more concrete information, however, I wanted to share with you what’s been going on.
From Abby: Happy New Year!
Wednesday, January 12th, 2011Happy 2011, everyone! I thought I’d start out the new year by giving you a little more background on me and my experiences in the world of global health. I’m a 4th year medical student at Ohio State this year, and I will graduate in June with both my MD and my MPH (Master’s of Public Health). I plan to pursue a career in family medicine, with a significant focus on global health. My passion lies in creating sustainable, long-term, mutually beneficial partnerships between western medical professionals and institutions and communities and healthcare systems in developing countries. Thus far, the focus of my international work has been in Ethiopia, where I’m heavily involved with an organization that supports orphans with HIV/AIDS. (If you’d like to learn more about AHOPE, please visit our website at www.ahopeforchildren.org.) I’ve also traveled to Honduras a few times on different medical volunteer trips. My trip to St. Albert’s this spring will be my first time traveling to Zimbabwe, and I am so excited to be there in just a few months!

I’ll also be writing about my experience at St. Albert’s once I’m there. We hope that this blog will encourage discussion and interest in international health issues from both students and other potential volunteers. (more…)
