Improving Women’s Health

Improving Women’s Health is one of BHA’s four areas of focus, along with Cancer Prevention and Education, Water System Improvements, and Meeting Urgent Needs. BHA supports efforts by St. Albert’s Mission Hospital and Karada Mission Hospital to improve women’s health.

An example is an eight-page brochure called Important Information About Women’s Health, produced by BHA in 2018, working closely with Dr. Paul Thistle, Ob/Gyn at Karanda Mission Hospital, and with Akanksha Kulshreshtha, a Zimbabwean medical student in Toronto who translated the English version into Shona.

Designed for women in the community, the topics include cervical cancer, breast cancer, family planning, menopause, diabetes (high blood sugar), hypertension (high blood pressure) and commonly asked questions about VIAC screening to prevent cervical cancer.  The brochure is available in Shona and English.

Read or download the English and Shona versions here.

Please note that this brochure is not intended to be a comprehensive reference of women’s health issues. Information on HIV/AIDS and STIs can also be found elsewhere.
